ABOUT ME

Lara Rosaline Heij, MD PhD
https://orcid.org/0000-0002-0602-3356

Lara is a clinicianscientist working as a pathologist specialized in the clinical field of liver pathology.

“In my work studying histology slides, nerves have always been an area of interest for me. Years of training have prepared me for my current work as a principal investigator in research focusing on nerve fibers in cancer cells.

My team and I use the newest techniques to unravel the origin of these cancer cells, and to define their function and interaction with other cells (such as immune cells and fibroblasts) as well as the cancer itself. I’m proud to have multiple affiliations in the Netherlands (in Maastricht and Rotterdam) and in Germany (in Essen). We all benefit from cultural and knowledge exchange by working together.

You can find my publications on Google Scholar and Pubmed and I routinely review articles on Publons.”

We collaborate closely with:

  • Juan Garcia Vallejo (VUMC, Amsterdam, The Netherlands)
  • Dr. Shivan Sivakumar (University Hospital Birmingham, UK)
  • Professor Flavio Rocha (Knight Cancer Institute, Oregon Health and Science University, Portland, OR, USA)
